My name is Kathy and I live in the beautiful New England Region of NSW. Whilst my background was in nursing and also IT, I have had a life long passion for food, fresh local produce and animal welfare. Several years ago, I realised I could put all of those passions together and support local producers by purchasing local produce where possible, only buying whole animals so that I could control to some degree that they were treated exceptionally well for all of their life (as well as knowing exactly where they were raised and what they were fed) and make everything from scratch so that I can ensure good quality produce, freshness and preservative free foods for all to enjoy. I spent months (and in some cases, a couple of years) experimenting, learning and having a wonderful time developing recipes that I would be happy to have on my menu. I went through my food safety certification, set up a small commercial kitchen and from there, The Sustainable Plate was born. I have one full time staff member and I hire extra casual staff when needed, again all local.
What do we do?
We produce fresh, high quality, pre-prepared meals, desserts, snacks and bottled products for people who care about where their food comes from, how it is farmed and how it is prepared. We provide catering services for business and private functions as well as specialty cakes. Menus are designed specifically for your function and budget. We source, where possible, our produce from the New England and Granite Belt regions. All of the breads, pastas, jams, sauces, pastries, stocks, ice creams and more, are made right here on the premises, fresh for you to enjoy. Apart from feeding our love of cooking, it also allows us to ensure that we use minimum sugars (for example our jams have 75% less sugar than most), and the food has no preservatives. This means you can rest assured that the food is freshly prepared, cooked or baked. All of our meats are true free range and our chicken is organic, all sourced directly from the farmers. We offer gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options and are more than happy to provide meals for any other dietary requirement you may have. The meals are prepared and delivered to you and you can order just a few days worth or a few weeks. Each item of your meal is packed separately and labelled with the ingredients, nutritional information and comes with full reheating instructions for stove top, microwave and oven.
The philosophy of TSP is that food should be freshly prepared, using the freshest ingredients possible, and that the production of that food should never involve the depletion of the land, destruction of the environment or cruelty to animals. To this end TSP sources our produce from farmers that are environmentally responsible, yet remain compassionate to the land they farm and the animals that they raise. We then work with that produce to offer foods that showcase the produce and its producers.
